Master in Interpreting and Translation Studies students attend new interpreting hub

Australia-based translation agency 2M recently launched its Remote Simultaneous Interpreting (RSI) hub in Melbourne. The hub provides state-of-the art infrastructure for Melbourne-based conference interpreters to provide simultaneous interpreting for clients anywhere in the world, and it obviates the technical limitations that conference interpreters can encounter when working from other platforms.

2M’s RSI hub also provides training to prepare future conference interpreters. Monash Master in Interpreting and Translation Studies students in their final semester attended the hub in March, where they were inducted into the logistic and technical features of RSI, and then able to use the equipment in a simulated exercise in simultaneous interpreting remotely. The COVID-19 pandemic has led to many interpreting assignments being serviced now to remote platforms.

One student commented: “RSI will become a new norm even after the pandemic, knowing how RSI operates and what kind of technology and equipment we need to have is very helpful.”
