The colours of the Gender & Media Lab logo symbolise the purple of the original Suffragette movement and the loud, reclaimed pink of the ‘pussy hats’. The shapes of our logo also have a deeper meaning. Before the introduction of word processors, traditional newspaper editors and publishers suggested changes to writers through a series of coded marks. These marks suggested formatting changes, spelling corrections and pointed out grammatical mistakes. One of these marks in particular, consists of a hash tag placed at the beginning of a line and a small arrow head pointing to where the writer needs to ‘insert space’. We have pulled together these marks to represent the media in our logo, as well as the outcomes we strive to achieve – to ‘insert space’ – for those challenged by inequality.
The logo is designed by Jane Connory. https://www.invisibleinaustralia.com/
