Composers Challenge PIC

About the day

Are you an aspiring acoustic or electronic music composer? Or perhaps you have always wanted to write your own music, but didn’t know where to start? Whether you want to compose for acoustic instruments or create music in a recording studio, this weekend is for you! Come for a day of free workshops with Composition and Music Technology staff from the Sir Zelman Cowen School of Music and Performance.

Throughout the day we will:

  • Learn practical strategies for approaching music composition;
  • Explore how music technology intersects with composition;
  • Discover our digital hub recording facility; and
  • Learn about our philosophy and approach to composition and music technology.

One of the most invaluable experiences for an emerging composer is hearing your work played by real musicians. Over the course of the day you will have the opportunity to compose a short work of your own and hear it played live.

We look forward to making music with you!

What is music at Monash?

The Sir Zelman Cowen School of Music and Performance is a thriving hub of diverse musical practices in performance, composition, research, teaching and industry engagement. We are home to an exciting community of undergraduate, postgraduate and professional musicians working across classical, electronic, experimental, jazz, interdisciplinary and popular music.

Collaboration, creativity, excellence, inclusivity, diversity and community are at the heart of what we do. Our students are innovative, forward-looking and internationally informed, and celebrate Australian music and its place in the world.

This is a FREE workshop.  Places are limited.  Bookings essential.  Register via this form.
