Research and engagement

PoCCEE

Staff in the Sir Zelman Cowen School of Music and Performance have been at the forefront of music and critical performance research in Australia for more than fifty years. Our expertise lies in a broad range of areas including composition, creative practice, critical performance studies, music technology, music education, and music theory. We are interested not just in creative practice in music and theatre, but also the capacity of these media to interrogate issues of equality, social justice, exclusion and identity.

Our focus on the investigation of the pedagogies of creativity, collaboration, expertise and enterprise (PoCCEE) underpins and informs our work in teaching and research. Our research is both global and national in outlook. Our research is published by the world’s prestigious publishers and staged in many parts of the world. It also has local resonance and impact. We are actively engaged in understanding creative practice in music and theatre in Australia in all its forms: social, political, economic and cultural.
