Elevating PhD students’ impact: Monash Arts Advantage PhD launches its research internships program
Monash Arts was extremely proud to launch its new Arts Advantage PhD program and research internships at a networking event on Thursday 16 June, held at Monash College’s new city campus.
The Arts Advantage PhD is a flexible graduate research degree connecting students to world-renowned research, academic and industry experts.
The event was an opportunity for industry leaders to learn about the program and how Monash Arts’ outstanding PhD candidates can contribute to industry-led research projects by engaging in research internships to support the innovation and development needs of partner organisations.
Associate Dean of Graduate Research, Professor JaneMaree Maher, led the evening’s proceedings. Professor Maher is particularly excited to see the development of long-term relationships with industry partners, explaining, “The opportunity to work more closely with our industry partners by mobilising the skills of our graduate researchers is a really key new stage in these collaborations. The projects graduate researchers undertake in these internships will hopefully advance the objectives and goals of our partners, while the skill, professional and network development will be invaluable for our students."
Interim Dean of Arts, Professor Rita Wilson, reiterated this sentiment stating, “as we navigate the social and economic impacts wrought by the COVID-19 pandemic, collaborations between industry and universities have never been more important.”
Dr Amy Gibbs, Editor in Chief of Digital Pulse, PWC Australia, and a Monash Arts Alumna who completed a PhD in Communications, was guest speaker. “My PhD gave me superpowers,” Amy extolled. “I know how to remove the tech jargon and the consulting jargon. I know how to get to the heart of what your business is trying to solve.”
