A degree for today’s media world

This is the first degree of its kind in Australia, offering an unparalleled mix of practice-based learning, theory and portfolio development. You’ll learn to focus on new ways of doing things, to challenge convention, and devise solutions that will take us into the next century.

Building on a selection of core units unique to this degree, you have the flexibility to then tailor the course to your interests by choosing your specialisation, and 8 free electives. In your third year, you can choose to either undertake an internship, or take on a major project in your area of interest.

The Bachelor of Media Communication Advisory Board

Our Advisory Board members are media practitioners from leading media organisations and provide key connections to industry networks. Our annual BMC welcome lecture is a great opportunity for our students to talk to industry experts and gain insights about the media landscape.

The Monash Media Lab

Graduate with a portfolio that will make you stand out. Core to this degree is developing your practical experience by building a portfolio of real work throughout your course.

Using the world-leading Monash Media Lab facilities you’ll be completely immersed in technical camera skills, lighting techniques, scripting, video editing, colour grading and more. From a documentary or short film, to a radio program or digital marketing campaign, you'll have a rich portfolio by the end of your degree for potential employers.

Study abroad

As Australia’s largest university, we have student exchange agreements with over 160 partner institutions in more than 35 countries across the UK, Europe, the Americas, the Middle East, Oceania and Asia, a study centre in Prato, Italy, and a campus in Malaysia. Studying a semester or two in places like Norway, Japan, Germany and Mexico is easier than you think.

Interdisciplinary research

Undertake research at an undergraduate level with the support of the Centre for Undergraduate Research Initiatives and Excellence (CURIE). CURIE provides a range of interdisciplinary research experiences that supplement your studies and expand your networks.
