COVID-19 procedures

Researchers undertaking human participant testing at Monash Business Behavioural Laboratory (MBBL) should email and were possible call their participants the day before session/s, and ask the following questions:

  • Have you travelled overseas within the last 14 days?
  • Have you been in contact with anyone who has travelled overseas within the last 14 days?
  • Do you have any flu like symptoms?
  • Have you been in contact with anyone with a confirmed case of COVID-19?

If you answered 'Yes' to any of the above questions

Participants must not attend the lab to participate in a research study until their risk of COVID-19 infection has been assessed and medically cleared.

If you answered 'No' to all of the above questions

Participants can participate in the research study. However, the researcher is responsible for undertaking the following procedures before the commencement of each research study.

Pre-experiment (before participant arrives) - researcher

  1. Use hand sanitiser.
  2. Wear gloves during the cleaning process.
  3. Wipe the entry door handles, both sides with alcohol swabs or Isopropyl wipes.
  4. Using either alcohol swabs or Isopropyl wipes to clean all keyboards, mice, and required equipment prior to use, as well as the intended desk surface.
  5. Dispose of used swabs/wipes and gloves in rubbish bag provided.

During experiment – researcher and participant

  1. Participants to use hand sanitizer before entering the lab.
  2. Ensure that a box of tissues is available and easily accessible for participants.
  3. Take care not to break skin of the participant during the abrasion process.
  4. Participants must be 1.5 metres apart at all times.
  5. For closer contact (less than 1.5m distance) between researcher and participants Ethics approval must be approved and documentation provided to MBBL Administrator via email at buseco-mbbl@monash.edu prior to research being conducted.
  6. Place new gloves for every new participant and don’t touch anything (which could be infected) before touching the participants, particularly during abrasion.

Post experiment (after participant leaves)

  1. Ensure that you perform ‘post-experimental cleaning procedures as per pre-experiment instructions.
  2. Ensure all equipment used is thoroughly cleaned. Do not use excessive volumes of liquid for sensitive equipment (eg. liquid into electrical devices are to be avoided).
  3. The ANT EEG cleaning process is by far not an issue in the lab simply due to standard procedures that are always adhered to eradicate viruses like HIV already.
  4. The DSI systems cannot be soaked in water, at all. They should be wiped down with alcohol wipes only. The inside foam cushions can be replaced and bathed in water and soap or alcohol/viraclean between participants though.
  5. Use the hand sanitiser after you have packed away all equipment and before you leave the lab.

Notes

  1. Do not wipe the electrodes themselves with alcohol swabs.
  2. Discard all used swabs, wipes and tissues immediately after use in the bin provided.
  3. Do not touch any electrical equipment with wet hands (includes hand sanitiser).
  4. Do not use hand sanitiser to sanitise any computers and devices such as electrodes, caps, shimmer devices etc.

Students please answer the following questions prior to admittance to the Monash Business Behavioural Laboratory (S1.33 and S1.36):

  • Have you travelled overseas within the last 14 days?
  • Have you been in contact with anyone who has travelled overseas within the last 14 days?
  • Do you have any flu like symptoms?
  • Have you been in contact with anyone with a case of confirmed COVID-19?

If you answered 'Yes' to any of the above questions

You must not attend the lab to participate in any research study until your risk of COVID-19 infection has been assessed and medically cleared, evidenced with a medical certificate.

If you answered 'No' to all of the above questions

You can participate in the research study.

Prior to entering the Lab (S1.33 or S1.36), please use the hand sanitiser provided and follow the Researchers instructions. Ensure that you maintain a 1.5 metres distance between all other people in the lab.
