"I started my career in a small accounting firm and thanks to networking via the CA program, I got a role in the Big 4 in financial services audit. I specialised in superannuation audit and tax for a while and completed a Masters of Applied Taxation to complement my CA studies.
After a few crazy years of working very long hours, I finally decided to focus more on work life balance and on my technical skills, and took on a role as a project manager at the Auditing and Assurance Standards Board (AUASB).
"I did not have a lot of money back then, and my parents paid for almost everything. It was a very humbling experience and I learned how to be happy with little."
I eventually went to Deloitte, where I am now a Director focusing on the preparation of financial statements. I have also been a university lecturer and a facilitator at CAANZ for the last decade. My main influences were my parents, my siblings and some of the career coaches I had throughout my journey.
I believe in taking the best from everyone, constantly working on improving and being surrounded by people with positive energy.
I often reflect fondly on my time at Monash University. I did not have a lot of money back then, and my parents paid for almost everything. It was a very humbling experience and I learned how to be happy with little.
As an international student from Mauritius, I initially struggled with the Australian accent. :)
But I quickly realised how friendly everyone was and formed some very strong bonds.
I completed a Bachelor of Commerce and a Bachelor of Business Systems and it was the perfect degree for me.
From my experience, the advice I would share with current students about to graduate from Monash Business School is: focus on your interpersonal skills; work on your interviewing skills; Be open to receiving constructive feedback and to working on it. Start looking for a job now.
