It is the University’s expectation that only those who are well and not presenting with COVID-19 symptoms attend a Monash campus or location. View our latest updates.
CDES invites innovative proposals from researchers at the Monash Business School for policy-oriented research projects to address the impact of the coronavirus pandemic in both developing countries and Australia.
The research priorities include:
We will prioritise proposals that can provide useful inputs to policymakers within a short timeframe.
We encourage researchers to use a wide range of methodologies and data sources (including administrative data, publicly available data, remote sensing data, online or phone surveys) that would generate evidence on how to respond to the economic crisis.
Research activities should not require face to face interactions and should comply with current IRB protocols for protecting both researchers and participants.
The main proposal should not exceed more than one page. In addition, please include a separate timeline, the amount of fund requested and budget justification.
We consider collaborative proposals with researchers external to the Monash Business School as long as the proposals are submitted by the researchers in the Monash Business School.
While there is no deadline for submitting proposals, early applications are strongly encouraged. We will accept proposals on a rolling basis and decisions on funding will be made quickly.
The maximum amount for a project is AUD $10,000.
To apply please submit by email to BusEco-CDES@monash.edu.
CDES invites innovative proposals from Higher Degree by Research (HDR) students at Monash Business School for proposals on policy-oriented research projects to address the impact of the novel coronavirus pandemic in both developing countries and Australia.
The research priorities include:
We encourage students to use survey or administrative data to write short policy-oriented papers on Covid-19-related topics. An example of such Covid-19 research is the online CEPR publication Covid Economics, launched at the end of March 2020, which curates vetted and real-time papers on the pandemic.
Before lodging the application, the HDR students should discuss their proposal with at least one of their supervisors or a faculty member at the Monash Business School for their approval of the application. The funds can only be used for new survey or administrative data acquisition. If the application is successful, CDES will allocate funds to the account of your nominated supervisor or faculty member, as we are unable to transfer funds to a student’s account. However, the supervisor does not have to be a co-applicant of the project.
We welcome proposals that can commence soon, with an expectation that preliminary results can be disseminated within three to four months after approval. Research activities should comply with guideline consistent with Monash University COVID-19 updates.
