Workshop on Sustainable Development Italy

Each year, the CDES and the Monash Business and Sustainability Network host the Workshop on Sustainable Development at the Monash Prato Centre, Italy.

The workshop brings together a select group of Monash staff and researchers from Europe, North America and Asia to discuss issues of common interest within the area of sustainable development and beyond.

The 2018 Workshop on Sustainable Development was held on 25 and 26 June.

Opening with a stimulating keynote presentation by the University of Oxford's Professor Tony Venables (pictured) on urbanisation in developing economies, the workshop provided a forum for participants from industry and academia to engage in discussion on issues ranging from poverty and inequality, agricultural productivity and gender to innovations in finance and energy conservation.

Speakers included Pinar Ozcan (Warwick Business School), Takashi Kurosaki (Hitotsubashi University), Andrea Brandolini (Banca Italia) and Ian Coxhead (University of Wisconsin-Madison).

The 2017 Workshop on Sustainable Development was held on 26 and 27 June.

Invited speakers included Erwin Bulte (Wageningen University), Henrik Hansen (University of Copenhagen), Jeffrey LaFrance (Monash University), Raoul Minetti (Michigan State University), Rahul Mukherji (Heidelberg University), Menno Pradhan (Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam), Deborah Ralston (Monash University), George Rapsomanikis (FAO), Matthias Schündeln (University of Frankfurt) and Lin Shao (Bank of Canada).

The 2016 Workshop on Sustainable Development was held on 24 and 25 June.

Invited speakers included Sumiter Broca (FAO), Tilman Brück (International Security and Development Center), Ian Coxhead (University of Wisconsin-Madison), Glenn Denning (Earth Institute, Columbia University), Gamini Herath (Monash University, Malaysia), Pushkar Maitra (Monash University, Australia), Dilip Mookerjee (Boston University), Bharat Ramaswamy (Indian Statistical Institute) and Alessandro Tarozzi (Universitat Pompeu Fabra).
