Prepare for 2020 CIMA Strategic Leadership Case Study Exam with a first of its kind face-to-face interactive workshop held at Monash Business School in collaboration with CIMA.

Throughout a two-day workshop you’ll be supported by experienced Accounting Academics as you craft strategy, manage and evaluate risk and implement your strategic knowledge across recent and relevant articles and cases.

The CFO Strategic Leadership Program will complement your experience and put you on a fast track to gaining the globally trusted and highly valued Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA) designation.

CGMA is the most widely held management accounting designation in the world. It distinguishes more than 150,000 accounting and finance professionals who have advanced proficiency in finance, operations, strategy and management.

Targeting senior accounting and finance executives

Do you have substantial experience in finance and business, and are looking to improve your success of passing the CIMA Case Study Exam?

This program is open to candidates with the following experience

  • CFO’s, CEOs and senior management who currently or previously worked in finance
  • Candidates who hold memberships of a recognised professional accounting body, a finance related degree or an MBA/Masters in Accounting
  • Candidates who have at least 10 years’ experience in finance or business functions

Your learning journey

Across the two-day workshop you’ll be supported by our expert facilitators as you sharpen your expertise and prepare yourself for the CIMA Case Study exam. The program will focus on the below three areas:

    • The role of accounting information and management controls

  • Risk management

    • Assess, evaluate and understand a range of strategic and operational risks
    • The role of accounting information and management controls
    • The influence of risks on strategy

  • Financial strategy

    • Understanding elements of the financial strategy
    • Assessing short and long term financing needs and sources
    • Assessing and valuation of firms and businesses

Workshop facilitators

  • Dr Paul Thambar

    Monash Business School

    Paul is a Fellow member (FCMA) of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA), UK and holds the CGMA designation. He has completed the CIMA Educational Qualification. He has served as the foundation chair of the Australasian Regional Board of CIMA and in other governance roles with CIMA in Australia over a number of years.

    Following a good professional career in senior accounting and consulting roles in banking, insurance, funds management, healthcare and information technology sectors, Paul moved to academia more than a decade ago and has held academic appointments at UTS Business School in Sydney and at Monash Business School where he carries out research projects and teaches in postgraduate programs. He has also taught in MBA programs at both institutions and has also designed an entrepreneurial MBA program. Paul's research focuses on the role of accounting and management control practices in enabling a range of organisational practices including strategy and risk management. His research findings have been published in top ranked academic journals and also in industry relevant online journals such as the Monash Impact journal.

    Paul has a PhD in Accounting and has also completed an Executive MBA.

  • Dr Ralph Kober

    Associate Professor
    Monash Business School

    Ralph is an Associate Professor of Accounting at Monash University with a broad range of research interests spanning management control systems, strategy, through to intellectual disability and quality of life. Throughout his academic career his research has been published in a variety of highly ranked journals, such as Management Accounting Research, Accounting and Business Research. He has taught across undergraduate, postgraduate, PhD and MBA programs in Australia, New Zealand and China, and has received a Dean’s Award for Teaching Excellence. Prior to joining Monash University, Ralph held positions at The University of Auckland and The University of Western Australia.

    Ralph is a Fellow of CPA Australia (FCPA) and member of Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CA) and is actively involved with academic and professional associations.

    Ralph has a PhD in Accounting and a Graduate Certificate in Higher Education.
