Course Completion of Last Unit(s) for Degree Policy

Purpose This policy provides guidance for students who are unable to complete the final requirements of their program in the usual manner because of circumstances beyond their control.
Scope This policy applies to undergraduate students who have less than one semester's load to course complete, and graduate students who have one unit left to course complete, enrolled in programs managed by the Faculty of Business and Economics.
Policy Statement

The Faculty of Business and Economics recognises the need for flexibility in dealing with cases where students are faced with issues beyond their control that may affect their study program.

Where an undergraduate student with  less than one semester's load to complete, or a graduate student with one unit left to complete, is experiencing exceptional circumstances that prevent him or her from completing the final requirements of their course, he or she may apply in writing to  the course director to course complete by enrolling in equivalent standard units.

The student's application must include details of the exceptional circumstances that prevent them from completing their course of study in the normal manner.

The faculty's preferred option is for alternative unit(s) to be selected from Monash University units, whether in Business and Economics or another faculty.

Where it is not possible for a student to complete their degree using Monash University units, the student may apply to undertake study at another institution. In this case, the student is required to apply for credit approval for the unit(s) prior to enrolling at the other institution.

When making a decision the course director will take into account the student's circumstances, relevant university and faculty policies, and the student's prior record.

The faculty will confirm the decision in writing.
