Internal Coursework Transfers Policy

Purpose This policy provides guidance to staff and students regarding the criteria and processes for transferring into the faculty’s coursework programs.
Scope This policy applies to all currently enrolled Monash students wishing to transfer into the faculty’s coursework programs.
Policy Statement

This policy only applies to currently enrolled Monash students. Course transfer is competitive and approval is subject to the availability of places in each program and for each type of funded place (eg Commonwealth Supported Places and Fee-paying places). The number of available transfer places is limited and will vary annually based on student enrolment trends. There are no guaranteed transfers.

This policy does not apply to students wanting to change their student fee status or those seeking to transfer to Monash from other institutions. Applications from non-Monash University students are regarded as new admissions and selected in accordance with University and faculty policy and procedures. A student who wishes to apply for transfer into a faculty coursework program from another program in the University or faculty must meet the admission requirements for the course and have achieved satisfactory progress in their current course of enrolment. Course specific criteria are documented below.

Undergraduate Coursework Transfers

Commonwealth Supported Place (CSP) students who have previously met the admission criteria for a faculty degree can only transfer when the faculty has CSP places available. This will normally be at the end of the academic year for admittance in the next academic year. Fee-paying students may be considered mid-year. Students need to have achieved satisfactory progress in their current degree and completed units totalling at least 12 credit points in a Monash University course to be considered for transfer. Students will not be considered for course transfer if they have already completed more than two thirds of their current course.

Students will be ranked according to consideration of the following:

  1. The entire academic record.
  2. The student statement and other documentary evidence submitted with the application.

The averages listed below are the minimum required for an application to be considered for transfer. However, the student statement and other documentary evidence submitted with the Course Transfer application may be considered during the selection ranking process.

Approvals for campus transfers will be dependent on satisfactory academic performance and campus capacity.

Postgraduate Coursework Transfers

Students who have previously met the admission criteria for a faculty postgraduate degree, including the English Language requirements, can only be transferred when the faculty has places available. Students need to have undertaken at least one semester of study (12 credit points) in their current postgraduate award and achieved the minimum WAM/ GPA for the course they wish to apply for. Applications will be considered and ranked on the basis of the entire academic record, any other course entry requirements for that course, student statement and other documentary evidence submitted.
