Monash Abroad Policy

Purpose This policy provides advice for students wishing to undertake a Monash Abroad program and study overseas as part of their Faculty of Business and Economics course.
Scope This policy applies to all undergraduate and graduate coursework students enrolled in programs managed by the Faculty of Business and Economics.
Policy Statement

Students  may consider applying for the Monash Abroad program to undertake one or two semesters of study or an intensive study block at an overseas institution or campus. Students wishing to study overseas must do so through this program - private arrangements cannot be made.

Eligibility

A student who wishes to apply to study abroad must have:

  • completed 48 credit points of their Monash course if they are an undergraduate student;  or one semester of study if they are a graduate student*, and
  • achieved at least a credit average.

* In the case of a graduate student, the Associate Dean (Learning and Teaching) may vary this requirement in special circumstances.

Process

Students must obtain comprehensive unit desriptions from the host institution detailing syllabus, prescribed readings and assessment for the unit(s) they wish to study and provide them to the Course Director or nominee, together with a completed application form.

The Course Director or nominee, following advice from the relevant department where appropriate, makes an assessment regarding the equivalence and suitability of units and details the approved credit on the approval form. Credit will be limited to those units approved. This must be done on the approval form and attached to the student's application.

When the student has received the Course Director's decision on the approved units he or she may proceed to submit an application to the host institution.

Approval will  not normally be given to undertake the equivalent of specialised units for Australian professional accreditation.
