BEX3722/BEX5722 Business and biodiversity in Victoria

This unit may count as a capstone or an elective unit in your undergraduate or postgraduate degree

This intensive two-week unit introduces the complex relationships between business, ecosystems, and biodiversity. Taking an interdisciplinary approach, students explore the importance of biodiversity for businesses, and examine how the decisions and actions of businesses impact ecosystems and biodiversity. Students learn of the challenges and opportunities of business and biodiversity in a local and global context and explore how different business models can contribute to restoring and preserving ecosystems to support biodiversity flourishing.

This unit incorporates site visits that provide opportunities for students to experience local ecosystems and interact with Australian wildlife. This is supplemented with creative and engaging on-campus learning experiences built on the concept of play, providing opportunities for students to bring original insights in formulating potential solutions to complex business problems. Role-play activities allow for perspective taking of organisational stakeholders, cultivating compassionate and action-oriented responses to business and biodiversity challenges, and encouraging students to explore business decision-making from a holistic viewpoint.  This unit aims to develop leadership skills and capabilities needed to ensure the flourishing of biodiversity, including holistic thinking, integrated problem solving, collaboration, creativity, compassion, and a sustainability mindset.
