New Product Development

In the fast-moving world of packaged goods, the chances of a new product surviving beyond its first year are slim. At the Monash Food Innovation Centre, we’ve developed an award-winning methodology to better the odds for packaged goods.
In this interactive three-day boot camp, you’ll learn best-in-class innovation methods, tools and approaches – from ideation, design and visualisation using 3D imagery, to prototyping. We’ll challenge you to test your new product development idea against a real-world case study.
What you'll learn
This three-day boot camp program brings together the best in theory and practice, in a world-class, working innovation centre. Through experiential, fast-paced, and fun live experience sessions, you’ll engage in a mix of content delivery, guided discussions, hands-on new product development, and moments of reflection.
The program culminates with you pitching your new product development idea in a group context to a former commercial buyer – an invaluable opportunity to put your new skills and knowledge into practice.
Learning outcomes
Each day, we’ll break down our proven methodology into different stages. You’ll learn about the process behind successful new product development – knowledge that you can take back to the office and put into practice right away.
Over three intensive, experiential days you’ll learn how to:
Discover opportunities
We'll introduce you to and you’ll apply Knowledge Mapping to understand the market landscape in order to identify opportunities and how to design your new offers for your target consumer.
Confirm your new idea
Take your new product idea through rapid testing and prototyping to gain valuable feedback. We’ll use techniques like consumer speed dating to test your idea and prototype with your target consumer to get real-life feedback.
Create design criteria
You'll learn Ideation and Prototyping to bring to life new ideas for the opportunity areas identified in product mapping. This will help you get crystal clear on your innovation needs with the help of and insight from consumers and shoppers.
