Established in 1958 and named after Sir John Monash, a celebrated Australian engineer and military commander in the first world war, the university is the second oldest public university in the state of Victoria and the most internationalised.
Monash is part of the Group of Eight Universities in Australia making it a world class research and teaching institution. The university has four campuses in Victoria and a campus in Malaysia. It also has teaching and research partnerships in Prato, Italy, Mumbai, India and Suzhou, China.
