Tony Cusack

Industry Fellow

Tony has more than thirty years’ experience in the finance industry and academia. His industry experience was initially gained through roles with Big 4 firms in Australia and Europe, specialising in corporate tax and international tax. His non-Big 4 experience includes acting as a CFO, Finance Director and Company Secretary for an oil and gas company based in the middle east..

In these roles, Tony was involved in providing taxation and corporate advice to a range of clients, from small family businesses through to a number of ASX-listed entities and in advising on the tax effective structuring of transactions, sale of businesses, numerous capital raising proposals including the drafting of prospectuses for ASX listing, Due Diligence, proposed takeovers, business structuring and project evaluation including financial modelling and analysis. He has managed teams in Accounting and Finance functions.

Tony’s university teaching experience commenced at the University of Melbourne in 1990, and he did a stint at Central European University in Budapest. He returned to the University of Melbourne on a sessional basis in 2014.

Tony joined the Department in 2013. In 2015, he introduced the new unit “Project Finance” into the Master of Applied Finance. He previously managed the undergraduate unit Pensions and Financial Planning, and has taught Financing and Treasury Management.
