Dale Christensen

Dale Christensen completed a Bachelor of Science with Honours at Monash University.  His major area of study was Chemistry, with complimentary minors in Mathematics and Physics.  Having enjoyed the environmental chemistry aspects of his study, he chose an Honours project which used vibrational spectroscopy to examine seagrass health.  Dale has now continued his study of spectroscopy in partnership with Agilent Technologies and Monash's Eliminate Dengue project.

Vu DaoVu Dao completed his Bachelor of Engineering degree with Honours and a Bachelor of Science degree at Monash University.  He majored in Chemical Engineering and Chemistry, and minored in Mathematics.  Vu has gained a range of research experience during his undergraduate training including coal extraction and gasification, and peptide chemistry.  He is currently undertaking his PhD studies, specialising in polymer chemistry, more specifically the design and synthesis of novel polymeric materials with industry partner BASF.

Shezmin Ismail

Shezmin Ismail completed a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry/Microbiology/ Zoology and a Master of Science in Biotechnology at Bangalore University in India.  She conducted biofilm research and was a lecturer in Chemistry at the National Institute of Fundamental Studies in Sri Lanka.  In 2007 Shezmin became an Analytical Chemist at Cement Australia’s alternate fuel producer Geocycle SBF.  Her PhD research will pursue methods for identifying and characterising analytes in complex matrics with industry partner PerkinElmer.

Reece LewisReece Lewis completed his Bachelor degree in Chemical Engineering at Monash University. His honours research project was completed with the Ladwig group investigating mixed matrix membranes for gas separation.  Additionally, Reece completed three months of vacation work at Woodgroup PSN as an undergraduate chemical engineer.  His PhD research involves a combination of polymer science and rheology with industry partner Nufarm.

Yitian MengYitian Meng completed a Bachelor of Science with Honours in Chemical Biology at Tsinghua University, China.  His main project during his honours was research on single cell detection of chemiluminescence by optical microscopy.  Yitian's PhD research area is spray drying technology, fabrication and application of porous materials with industry partner 3M.

Jackson MooreJackson Moore graduated with a Master of  Chemical and Materials Engineering degree at the University of Queensland.  He has worked in a wide variety of areas including studying the rheological properties of hydrated starchy foods at University of Queensland, testing process variables that affect product quality in the alumina industry at QAL, and designing a membrane separation process for desalinating coal seam gas brine at Origin Energy.  Jackson's PhD research investigates developing novel surfactants with Axieo.

George MutchGeorge Mutch completed his Bachelor of Engineering with Honours and Bachelor Pharmaceutical Sciences at Monash University.  He has experience in coal sciences research at Monash University and experience in root cause analysis from his time working at Australian Paper Maryvale.  George's PhD research is area is working in dry granulation with the aim to creating fast dissolving products to be used as process components in the soaps industry for Procter and Gamble.

Timothy NichollsTimothy Nicholls' affinity for chemistry and mathematics in high school prompted him to undertake a Bachelor of Engineering (Chemical) and Bachelor of Science (Chemistry) degrees at Curtin University.  He has previously undertaken work experience with Curtin Corrosion Engineering Industry Centre (CCEIC) where he worked on a project entitled 'Characterisation of the kinetics of oxygen scavenging in MEG systems'. Timothy is currently pursuing a PhD in the field of polymer science with industry partner 3M.

Aysu OnurAysur Onur graduated from Istanbul Technical University in Turkey with a Bachelor of Chemical Engineering degree.  Subsequently she received a Master's of Engineering degree from Deakin University.  In addition to her master's degree, she has conducted a research project studying the surface treatment of cotton fibre as a research assistant at Institute for Frontier Materials at Deakin University. Aysur's PhD research focus is on investigating the filtration applications of cellulose fibres with industry partner 3M.

Giselle PacotGiselle Pacot obtained her Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry and Computer Engineering at the Ateneo de Manila University in the Philippines.  She worked in IT for three years before pursuing her Master's degree at the University of Wollongong with an Endeavour Award scholarship.  Giselle then went back to Ateneo to teach undergraduate Chemistry for a couple of years.  Her current PhD research focuses on the application of analytical chemistry methods to environmental issues with Agilent Technologies.

Matthew PottageMatt Pottage has been a member of the Soft Materials and Colloids group in the School of Chemistry at Monash University since completing his honours year in the laboratory in 2013.  His PhD research interests include the structural investigation of fluorinated amphiphiles to facilitate design of their replacements, and the incorporation of graphene and its derivatives into smart, functional materials with industry partner 3M.

Kaiyuan Qin completed a Bachelor degree of Chemistry at Beijing University of Chemical Technology in China.  He recently obtained a Master’s degree of Chemistry at the University of Melbourne.  His previous research was mainly on the synthesis of nano-scaled porous materials, which was conducted in the Particulate Fluids Kaiyuan QinProcessing centre at the University of Melbourne.  Kaiyuan's PhD research interest is on developing a range of well-defined polymer architectures as alternative surfactants for VOC-compliant performance coatings with industry partner Haymes Paint.

Parijat RayParijat Ray completed a Bachelor degree of Science in Chemistry and Bachelor degree of Technology in Polymer Science and Technology in India.  Recently, he completed a Master of Technology degree in Rubber Technology in India.  This included a Master's thesis project in Leibniz Institute of Polymer Research Dresden (IPF) at the Technical University Dresden in Germany.  Parijat has industrial training experience in Mitsui Chemical Inc, Japan.  His PhD research interests are developing polymer coatings with industry partner PPG.

Hana ShirazHana Shiraz completed a Bachelor of Engineering degree with Honours in Chemical Engineering at Monash University. She was previously enrolled in Texas A&M University where she was involved in multiple undergraduate research projects, primarily in areas of thermodynamics. During her time at Texas A&M, she did a Bachelor of Science minoring in chemistry and took courses on organic chemistry and polymer chemistry. At Monash University, her undergraduate research work involved the incorporation of graphene oxide molecules into PVDF membranes for use in waste water treatment systems. She is currently undertaking her PhD in Materials Engineering with industry partner Dulux, specialising in novel film forming polymer nanocomposite particles.

Temma Temma Carruthers-TaylorCarruthers-Taylor primary education was at Orana School, Rudolf Steiner education, in Canberra.  In her gap year she worked as a station hand in remote WA (Pilbara) and then developed her passion through her ANU degree in Geology and Soil Science. Within her Honours Temma commenced rice paddy soil research in Vietnam.  Broadly, her interest is soil science; more specifically her passion is solving problems within the soil science sphere.  Temma's PhD research is in alternative value added uses of organic waste with industry partner EPA Victoria.

Sri VanarasiSri Vanarasi has a Bachelor degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences from Pondicherry Central University (PCU) in India.  He continued his interest in Chemistry through a Master's of Science in Medicinal Chemistry from NIPER- Hyderabad.  As a part of his master's research project, Sri worked on designing and synthesising hybrid chemical entities in the Indian Institute of Chemical Technology (CSIR-IICT).  His PhD interdisciplinary research project involves chemistry and polymer materials with industry partner CSIRO.

Yungmeng ZhaoZhao Yunmeng has Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry from Nanjing University in China. His research experience during a graduation internship in the laboratory at Nanjing University includes and electrochemistry electrode design and design and manufacturing viscoelasticity rubber materials. Zhao's PhD research area is developing the next-generation smart wearable biomedical sensors with industry partner 3M.
