Monash Data Futures Institute Research Fellows

The Monash Data Futures Institute has a mission to bring teams together across Monash University to tackle large and significant research problems in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and data science. Our Research Fellows are working to accelerate progress in these areas and to further our work in AI for social good.

SUREKHA GAIKWAD

Surekha Gaikwad has recently completed her Masters of Computing (Advanced) from the Australian National University (ANU) with a specialisation in Artificial Intelligence and Computer Vision. Her research project titled "Deep Emotion Recognition" was completed in collaboration with the Australian Federal Police and ANU to identify emotions and psychological state of mind of people, using Bayesian deep learning techniques.

Previously, Surekha completed her Bachelors degree in Computer Science from Pune University, India. She then worked both as a Software Developer and as a Quality Assurance Analyst in various organisations.

Surekha has wide experience in various technologies related to both frontend and backend development. While working with CDK Global, she was a branding ambassador, representing the organisation in the market.

STUART MILLS

Stuart Mills photo

Stuart Mills completed a Master of Data Science from Monash University, with a dual focus on Mathematical Modelling for the use in AI and Machine Learning and database design and structures for big data analytics. During his studies, Stuart also worked as a Business Analyst and a consultant, providing analytical and business intelligence support for data integrations to internal and external stakeholders.

Prior to this, Stuart completed a Bachelor of Science majoring in Astrophysics from Monash University.

In his spare time, Stuart plays regular social and competitive sports such as soccer and cricket, as well as coaching his local soccer team.

HANIF BHUIYAN

Hanif Bhuiyan photo

Hanif Bhuiyan undertook his PhD at Queensland University of Technology (QUT), in partnerships with Data61, CSIRO and CARRS-Q. His research areas include automated decision making, knowledge representation, data analysis, text mining, NLP, ML and DL.

During his PhD, he also worked as a Software Engineer & Data Scientist at CARRS-Q (QUT), and previously as a lecturer at various universities in Bangladesh.

Hanif completed his Bachelors in Science from Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology (AUST), Bangladesh, followed by a Masters in Engineering from Inha University, South Korea. He also has two years of software development experience at AI Lab, Inha University, South Korea, where he was involved in developing an Augmented Reality-based video authoring platform.

Hanif loves solving programming problems, playing cricket and soccer, and swimming.
