MDFI appoints Associate Professor Andrea Collevecchio as new Research Director
We are pleased to announce the appointment of Associate Professor Andrea Collevecchio as the new Research Director for the Monash Data Futures Institute (MDFI).
Andrea joins us from the School of Mathematics in the Faculty of Science, where he is currently the Director of Research. After earning his PhD in Statistics from Purdue University (USA) in 2004, Andrea held several postdoc positions in Italy and Germany, and later became Assistant Professor at the Ca’Foscari University in Venice in 2006.
He joined the School of Mathematics at Monash University in 2012. His research lies at the intersection of Probability, Analysis and Mathematical Physics. In particular, he is an expert in Reinforced Processes.
As Research Director of the Institute, Andrea will be leading the research agenda for MDFI by bringing together leading cross-disciplinary AI and data science expertise from across the University.
We would also like to thank our outgoing Research Director of the Institute - Professor Geoff Webb, for defining and leading our research agenda since 2020. Geoff will be returning to the Faculty of IT to lead the Machine Learning group in the Department of Data Science & AI. Geoff will continue his engagement with MDFI around Pharmacoinformatics and provide strong connections with the Faculty of IT.
Please join us in welcoming Andrea to the role, and we look forward to your continued engagement with the Institute.
