Teaching is a significant academic undertaking and component of any research intensive academic career. This module will cover key issues in teaching and learning relevant to sessional teaching to prepare you as a new teaching associate and develop your teaching experience. This training activity is intended to develop a broad range of skills that include: critical thinking; communication skills; professional skills such as leadership, group management and time management; understanding of the subject area; and technical expertise.
Basic scientific research plays a key role in research discoveries, which can be translated into products, such as drugs or applications that improve human and veterinary health. This is a long-term process and therefore needs clear planning from the start with a clear definition of what the end product will look like. This module will introduce you to the initial stages of the planning process, including what needs to be considered when implementing such a project.
A critical aspect of productive research is the ability to read and understand published research papers. Journal clubs aim to broaden your knowledge of a field, familiarise you with many types of scientific questions and methodological approaches and allow you to hone your skills in data interpretation and criticism.
Writing and communication are essential aspects of the graduate research student training process. Workshops and online resources are provided to support students in the written and oral communication of their research These resources aim to improve communication skills to enhance students' careers in research, academia and other related professions.
