What happened to the thylacine?

PhD candidate Douglass Rovinsky.

PhD candidate Douglass Rovinsky, from the Adams lab, answered questions and busted myths about the thylacine (Tasmanian tiger) on Triple R's Einstein A Go Go (start at 39:20). Discussion ranged from the factors that contributed to its extinction, its nearest relatives and some of the behaviours of the marsupial. Using comparative anatomy and functional morphology, Douglass is able to gain understanding about this extinct species by observing a range of carnivorous mammals to create a data set into which he can then fit the thylacine's anatomy and behaviour.
