Welcome from the Dean
Welcome from the Dean
I am delighted to introduce you to our Faculty – one of the world’s leading Faculties of Education situated in one of the world’s most liveable cities.
We have an international reputation for excellence in research and teaching, ranked number one in Australia and 12th in the world. But our passion is for more than rankings, as important an indicator as they are when you are making choices. Our passion is for wanting to have impact, to make a positive difference in the lives of others, through education and through counselling and psychology. We share this passion with our vibrant alumni community, with research partners as well as with stakeholders in the professions and society more generally.
We are a large, multi-campus Faculty with almost 7000 students, 180 academic staff and 90 professional staff. We offer a diverse range of disciplines in our taught and research degree programmes and, in the years ahead, we will grow new areas as they relate to our research strengths and society’s needs. Since long before the COVID-19 pandemic, the Faculty of Education has offered high quality online learning opportunities and we continue to build on our expertise in this area, offering exceptional support for our students’ learning.
Given our scale, we are also a highly experienced provider of customised professional learning and immersion programmes and the delivery of complex, capability-building initiatives for teachers, school leaders, psychologists and other professionals, working with governments and other agencies and organisations across Australia and around the world.
Research is right at the heart of what we do, as you would expect of a Faculty in a leading global research university. Our Faculty of Education has a truly vibrant and diverse research culture that will be enhanced by the opening of a new Faculty Research Centre in 2021. The overarching theme for our Research Strategy 2020 – 2025 is ‘Fostering fair and sustainable futures’, signalling our commitment to striving for social justice, equity and responsible development. All of our students as well as society more generally benefit from our research – whether through our education programmes, our translational work through our think-tank Monash Education Futures, or broader stakeholder engagement. Globally, our Education International Research Alliance with the universities of Hong Kong, McGill, Oxford and Stanford situates us at the heart of academic excellence and international research collaboration.
It is an honour to serve as Dean of this Faculty and to work with such an outstanding team of talented academic and professional colleagues. We are ambitious for the quality and impact of our research and education programmes globally but equally certain that we must offer outstanding study and work experiences for students, visitors and our staff here on the ground in Melbourne. Our University believes that there’s never been a time or a greater need to make change. Whether you want to change your life, your career, your community, or the future, it starts at Monash. Join us in the Faculty of Education and leave the world in better shape than you found it.
