Re-imagining professional experience in initial teacher education: An Australian perspective
Presented by Associate Professor Graham Parr

Policymakers and politicians across the world are increasingly questioning the capacity of universities to prepare graduate teachers for teaching in the 21st Century.

A new book, Re-imagining professional practice in initial teacher education: Narratives of learninguses the creative power of scholarly storytelling to document one Australian university’s innovative and strategic responses to a difficult policy landscape.

This lecture will draw on narratives from this book to propose a theorised and practical agenda for professional experience in initial teacher education. The agenda makes a priority of partnerships, pedagogy and identity work. The lecture will also argue for the value of narrative in researching the nuances and complexity of educational work.
