EOIs for the Dr Marie-Faith Fiawoo Memorial PhD Scholarship in Materials Science and Engineering
Expressions of interest are sought from outstanding candidates for PhD study in the Materials Science and Engineering Department at Monash University.
A full-time funded living allowance scholarship of $30,000 per annum for a maximum of 4 years is available for an excellent candidate to join the department. For international candidates a fee scholarship will also be awarded.
Preference will be given to female applicants, as this is a memorial scholarship for a female colleague Dr Marie-Faith Fiawoo, a Monash University post-doctoral Research Fellow in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, was tragically killed in a wall collapse in Carlton in late March 2013.
Marie-Faith, a French national, had been working in the Faculty of Engineering for two and a half years. Her position was funded by Rio Tinto Alcan in Canada. Until her untimely death, her research was focused on "Microstructural Characteristics of Precipitates in Aluminium extrusion alloys using high resolution TEM (Transmission Electron Microscopy)".
This scholarship is not tied to any particular project in the department, so is open to all high achieving candidates wishing to pursue PhD study in materials science and engineering for whom an appropriate project and supervision is available in 2016.
Applicants must show excellent communication and inter-personal skills, willingness to meet with Marie-Faith’s family and to provide an annual report to the donors on their progress.
Note: applicants who already hold a PhD will not be considered.
