Welcome from the Dean
Welcome to the Faculty of Engineering. As Australia’s top engineering school, we’re focused on research and education that delivers sustainable solutions for society’s global challenges – climate, energy, resources, food, infrastructure, transportation, water, health, communications, and security.
At Monash University, students enter into a learning environment that fosters their development as creative technical problem-solvers and human-centred designers. Our graduates are dynamic, highly competent and in-demand leaders across the breadth of engineering disciplines and beyond. Our team is truly world-class – committed to purposeful scientific discovery, collaboration, entrepreneurial activity and strong partnerships across industry, government and not-for-profit sectors.
Rapid technological developments in computational, biomedical and autonomous systems require Australia's engineers to be at the forefront of research, education, and decision-making in these areas. Interdisciplinary collaboration and external partnerships, at home and abroad are critical to our success in advancing and implementing engineering knowledge for societal benefit.
Diversity and inclusion is a core commitment of our university. As I write this message, leaders at the World Economic Forum in Davos are emphasizing that gender diversity is a collective responsibility and that men have an important role to play in supporting and encouraging women to participate in education. In Australia, less than 13 per cent of engineers are women, yet engineering is a driver of our economy. Australian women and girls must be encouraged and empowered to choose engineering careers – we cannot win the game unless all our players are on the field. Monash University is proactively ensuring the future of engineering is world-leading, inclusive and diverse.
We invite you to get in touch with us if you have any questions about the Faculty of Engineering. If you’re an alumnus, we welcome you to join us on LinkedIn at Engineering Alumni Monash University or contact our alumni engagement team. Our team can help you access the latest research, provide networking opportunities and connect you to the student community through initiatives such as work readiness programs, mentoring and guest lecturing. If you’re currently working in engineering, contact our Industry Engagement Team regarding research partnerships or an expert consultation, or get in touch with our Co-op team to hire our students through flexible paid-internships.
We look forward to hearing from you.
Very best regards,
Dean, Faculty of Engineering
