FUTURE WOMEN LEADERS CONFERENCE

The Future Women Leaders Conference is a unique event specially designed to support women in engineering and IT to progress their academic careers.
The two day conference co-hosted by Monash University, the University of Melbourne and UNSW will gather early career academics in engineering and IT from around Australia. The conference will be chaired by Prof Cordelia Selomulya and Dr Pierre Le Bodic (Monash), Prof Ana Deletic (UNSW), and Prof Elaine Wong (University of Melbourne), and will feature a range of exciting speakers, including Prof Rose Amal (UNSW), Prof Karen Hapgood (Deakin University), Prof Robert Mun (ARC) and others.
Attendees will attend skill development workshops, learn strategies to deal with the specific challenges facing women in engineering and IT and network with their peers.
Professor Rose Amal
ARC Laureate Fellow, Scientia Professor, Particle and Catalysis Group, School of Chemical Engineering, UNSW
Professor Rose Amal is a UNSW Scientia Professor and an ARC Laureate Fellow. Professor Rose Amal is a chemical engineer and the leader of the Particles and Catalysis Research Group. Previously she was also the Director of the ARC Centre of Excellence for Functional Nanomaterials (2010-2013).
Professor Rose Amal is recognised as a pioneer and leading authority in the fields of fine particle technology, photocatalysis and functional nanomaterials having made significant contributions to these related areas of research over the past 15 years. Her research contributions span from fundamental chemistry to applied chemical engineering fields; from material science and nano-research to a specialised photochemistry field.
Her current research focuses on designing nanomaterials for solar and chemical energy conversion applications (including photocatalysis for water and air purification, water splitting, development of indoor self-cleaning materials, low temperature catalytic reactions) and engineering systems for solar induced processes, using the sun’s energy as a clean fuel source.
Dr Robert Mun
Executive Director, Engineering and Information Sciences, ARC
Dr Robert Mun joined the ARC in May 2018 as Executive Director for Engineering and Information Sciences.
Dr Mun has a strong technical background as a researcher, and has had an extensive career in the Australian Government. Prior to joining the ARC, Dr Mun was Branch Head at the Defence Science and Technology Group with the Australian Department of Defence, and previously was Scientific Advisor to Navy and to the Defence Material Organisation, and Senior Scientist leading systems engineering research, also with the Department of Defence. With research expertise commencing in the area of fluid mechanics, through his subsequent Australian Government roles, his experience has extended to complex systems integration, focusing on the integration and networking of multiple Defence systems. His research team’s specialty was including the human element within the engineering solution.
Throughout his career, Dr Mun has been involved in working with a wide range of national and international research specialists, incorporating multiple technologies into emerging solutions. This work has included managing Defence capability demonstrator grant programs.
Dr Mun has authored numerous Australian Government reports, and has contributed to a wide range of policy and capability outcomes. Prior to joining the Australian Government, he published numerous journal and book articles on fluid mechanics
