The 16th International Symposium on Tubular Structures will take place at Melbourne’s city centre, from Monday 4th to Wednesday 6th December 2017. This Symposium is considered the principal showcase for tubular structures and the prime international forum for discussion of research, developments and applications in this field. The conference would be of interest to manufacturers of hollow sections or related construction products, architects, trade associations, design engineers, steel fabricators, owners or developers of tubular structures, researchers, academics and postgraduate students.
In the past,15 International Symposia have been successfully held in Boston, U.S.A. (1984), Tokyo, Japan (1986), Lappeenranta, Finland (1989), Delft, The Netherlands (1991), Nottingham, U.K. (1993), Melbourne, Australia (1994), Miskolc, Hungary (1996), Singapore (1998), Dusseldorf, Germany (2001), Madrid, Spain (2003), Quebec, Canada (2006), Shanghai, China (2008), Hong Kong, China (2010), London, UK (2012) and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (2015).
The 16th International Symposium on Tubular Structures will be held at Novotel hotel. Novotel Melbourne on Collins is a 4.5 star hotel in the heart of Melbourne. It is located on fashionable Collins Street and directly above the upscale St Collins Lane, Melbourne's most unique shopping destinations. The desirable location is near Rod Laver Arena, the MCG, Federation Square, the Princess and Regent Theatres and more.
A variety of hotels are available in Melbourne CBD, covering a range of prices, all located near to the Symposium venue. However, the Symposium venue, Novotel Melbourne on Collins, also offers a range of accommodation options with a special rate (AUD200 per night for Standard Queen Room (single occupancy)) for the ISTS16 delegates.

The conference dinner will be held on Tuesday, 5th December 2017 in Melbourne Cruise on the Yarra River. As you admire the twinkling city lights reflecting on the water, enjoy a gourmet meal. Cruise passes attractions like Federation Square, Flinders Station, and the Royal Botanic Gardens while soaking up the elegant and relaxing atmosphere of the boat.
Technical Visits & Social Tours
The symposium will also include an exciting programme of social and entertainment activities, including technical visits to notable structures in Melbourne such as the Melbourne Star, Australia’s only giant Observation Wheel.
