Meet our students

There are many ways to get involved and connect with like-minded people. You will have the opportunity to attend events, learn new skills and engage with industry to broaden your knowledge and your networks whilst forming lasting friendships along the way.

You will have the opportunity to participate in annual conferences and meetings, such as the International Mining Conference or the All-Energy Australia Exhibition. You may even participate in student-lead competitions such as the annual Mining Games or the Solar Decathlon.

As a mining student, you will also be able to get involved in the Australian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (AusIMM) student chapter. Student membership provides you with exposure to industry along with the skills needed for success in the workforce. Many of our students have taken on leadership roles with the AusIMM.

What our students say

Keely Simpson-Bull
I chose Mining Engineering because I have always had an interest in Earth science, and I wanted to be a part of developing new ways to make mining cleaner and safer. Mining is something that impacts everybody’s life, and I am excited to be a part of something so important.

Harrison Rees
I have been lucky in that I have worked for companies such as WSP, Newcrest and Oz Minerals in my holidays. There is currently a huge demand for Mining Engineers. I love to travel and the Northern Territories and Canada are next on my list.

Nimiesh Ranpatidewage
I chose to do Mining Engineering because it's so diverse. We study elements of many different disciplines including civil and electrical engineering, surveying and geology. It is also a career which isn’t stuck in an office. There are opportunities to work outside and in lots of different environments, including the chance to travel, which really appealed to me.
