Ms. Sangita Kumari
Postgraduate Student - IITB
Department of Civil Engineering
Sangita is B.Tech in Information Technology from Bhilai Institute of Technology, Durg (C.G.). After that She did her M.Tech in Geomatics Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee. She is also DAAD scholar under DAAD master sandwich program (2013-14) and continued her Master thesis partially at Institute of Cartography, TU Dresden, Germany. Her research interest is in Glaciology, applications of Remote Sensing and image processing and study of climate models. She has research experience in Remote Sensing based data assimilation in Hydro-meteorological models while working as Junior Research Fellow at Indian Institute of Remote Sensing, ISRO. Apart from this she has nine months’ work experience in Tata Consultancy Services (TCS).

Sangita research focuses on the physical processes governing a glacier to estimate the current and future glacier volume in the Eastern Himalayas. This is to be done with the effective use of remote sensing data sets and techniques thus minimizing the need for tedious and challenging glacier field surveys. The end product of this research will serve various researchers, hydrologists and water resource planners to come out with a deeper understanding of glaciers behaviour and thereby leading to a more effective decision making of this remote and less studied fresh water reservoirs.
