Our aim is to reach zero waste at Monash. To achieve this, we prioritise waste prevention over recycling and continually improve our waste management infrastructure and processes.

We also run behaviour change programs, awareness campaigns and campus initiatives that encourage staff and students to help us towards our goal. Our work ensures our journey towards zero waste supports the planned development and future growth of our campuses.

We sustainably manage the following waste streams:

  • Organic wasteRecycling bin
  • Cardboard
  • Paper (including confidential documents)
  • Printer cartridges and toners
  • Batteries
  • E-Waste
  • Fluorescent tubes
  • Metal
  • Mobile phones and chargers
  • Hazardous waste
  • Furniture
  • Construction, refurbishment and demolition waste
  • General household waste

We work closely with our Strategic Procurement and Facilities and Services to ensure our purchasing and development decisions align with waste management targets and strategic plans.
