Unauthorised material and cheating
There are strict rules in place for conduct during exams. Possession of unauthorised material in an exam is an offence.
Possession refers to items:
- in your pockets, clothing or on any part of your person
- on your desk or chair.
Unauthorised material refers to items not approved for the exam. Approved items will often be listed on the front page of the exam paper.
For more information, see exam rules and check with your faculty.
Mobile phones and smart watches
If you bring a mobile phone or smart watch into an exam, you must turn them off (including the alarm) and put them in your bag on the floor.
You will have to face a discipline committee, if you are charged with:
- possession of unauthorised materials
- attempting to cheat
If the charge is proven, we may suspend you from your course or exclude you from the University. If we find you in possession of a mobile phone during an exam, you may receive a fine of up to $300.
