Help for first years
If you're struggling with a unit or with your study load, you might want to consider dropping a unit by the census date.
Before making changes to your enrolment, check your:
- course rules (for core units, pre-requisites or co-requisites) or talk to your faculty
- visa conditions, if you're an international student. You usually need to have a full study load for your student visa to remain valid.
Remember to keep your contact details up to date in WES, otherwise you might miss important communications from us.
Standard semester one units
31 March is the census date for standard semester one units. This means that after this date you'll be charged fees for any standard semester units that you're enrolled in.
1 April - withdrawn late
If you drop a unit from this date, you'll get charged for it as well as having a WD-LATE recorded on your academic record.
7 May - withdrawn fail
And dropping a unit from this date will get you a WD-FAIL on your record, as well as having to pay for it.
So make sure you withdraw early to avoid fees and any mention of the unit appearing on your academic record.
31 May - last day to drop units
This is the last teaching day for standard semester one units. It's impossible to drop units after this date as you will have completed the entire teaching period.
So all of the dates discussed above are for standard semester one units. Some of the dates will be different if you're studying a unit with a different teaching period (e.g. full-year units, terms, trimesters). It's really important you check the dates when fees kick in as well as what's going to appear on your academic record.
Find out about non-standard unit dates and when you can drop them without consequence.
