Global Leaders' Summit

The Global Leaders' Summit is to be held on 4-5 September 2018, with global alumni ambassadors convening at Monash Clayton campus.

With the world facing an increasingly complex series of environmental and economic challenges, as well as unprecedented social and technological change, the two-day Summit program highlights the exciting changes unfolding across Monash University to address these challenges.

Monash University’s President and Vice-Chancellor Professor Margaret Gardner AO has a vision for this annual event; to underpin cooperation between alumni and the University. Through interactive sessions run by and for alumni, the Summit will challenge the Monash community on how to drive change in industry engagement and build opportunities for mutual benefit.

About the Network

With over 330,000 alumni around the globe, Monash has a strong international presence.

We see great potential for collaboration with our alumni - working together with individuals who share our ambition to make a difference for fellow alumni and for current Monash University students alike. We call our initiative the Global Leaders’ Network, the collective name for our active alumni across our eight key locations around the world - Australia, mainland China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, the United Kingdom and the United States of America. The Global Leaders' Network aims to build the alumni network, support the student experience and inspire gifts of philanthropy.

Re-connecting with the University through this network provides an opportunity for alumni to really get involved, meet with other alumni, share their knowledge and experience, and broaden their professional and personal networks. Monash is committed to the success of the Global Leaders’ Network. We have appointed in-country officers in New York City and London, and there are plans to appoint in-country managers to support our work in the other priority locations.

Global Leaders' Network Advisory Committee

Each Global Leaders' Network is led by a Global Leaders' Network Advisory Committee .

We currently have four active Global Leaders' Network Advisory Committees – East Coast USA, West Coast USA, London, and Hong Kong, with future plans to expand into Singapore, mainland China and Indonesia, as well as formalising networks in cities around Australia.

Each Global Leaders' Network Advisory Committee aims to build and support the Global Leaders’ Network, attract philanthropic support and enhance the student experience in their location.

Professor Margaret Gardner AO, the President and Vice-Chancellor, hosts the annual Global Leaders' Summit to bring the groups together and address the challenges and opportunities prevalent in industry, both within Australia and around the globe.

Meet the groups

Our work

The Global Leaders' Network has inspired several gifts of philanthropy that support the student experience both financially and professionally.

Inaugural Hong Kong Alumni scholarship

The Global Leaders' Group in Hong Kong were guided by their strong belief that personal circumstances should not restrict individual ambition or ability.  This small group of Hong Kong based leading alumni established a comprehensive scholarship to enable a bright, but disadvantaged, student from Hong Kong to undertake a life-changing educational experience at Monash University in Melbourne.  The 2017 recipient of this Inaugural Hong Kong Alumni scholarship was Kristy Lin.  Learn more about the scholarship.

Global Discovery Program

The signature program for many of our Global Leaders is the Global Discovery Program - an international internship designed to empower students with the knowledge, skills and connections that will enable them to excel on the world stage in their career of choice.

Supported and hosted by the Global Leaders’ Group in one of our priority locations, a select group of up to eight students, are chosen through a competitive process to participate in this intensive 7-8 day program. The hosting Global Leaders’ Group, together with the wider alumni network, create a bespoke program for the students that includes workplace meetings, experiences and introductions to leading alumni and their organisations.

This program is a life-changing opportunity for the students chosen to participate. Global Leaders involved in the program interact with some of the best and brightest Monash students.
