Assessment and Honorarium
Monash provides all examiners with an honorarium upon receipt of the thesis examination report. The fee is:
- AUD $468, doctoral thesis
- AUD $263, master’s thesis
Australian examiners may wish to also complete the Tax File Number declaration, to avoid being taxed at the higher bracket. Alternatively, examiners with ABNs can invoice us for the full amount. Note that only ABNs registered with GST can include GST in the tax invoice.
Overseas examiners, will be paid directly into your account, once you have provided the banking details form. Banking details, including SWIFT code must be provided. IBAN is also required for payment in Euro.
Assessment completion time
Doctoral examiners have eight weeks to complete thesis assessment and Master examiners, six weeks. If you need more time, please inform us so that we can update the student and supervisor.
From September, 2016 all PhD and MPhil examinations will be conducted online via a secure personalised portal, sent to the examiner via email. The report and final recommendation is to be completed via this link. Examiners who have misplaced the email, can contact email@example.com and the link will be resent.
All other examinations reports should be emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Release of reports
Once all reports and comments have been received, unedited copies (including your identity) will be forwarded to the student, their supervisor and the head of the academic unit.
Information on the assessment of Doctoral and Research Master’s degrees, is outlined in Chapter 7 of the handbook.
