2.3 Credit provision for PhD and professional doctorate degrees

A student can apply for credit at the point  of admission in respect of a unit of study for work completed, or a  qualification or experience that they have obtained which is:

  • equivalent to that unit  of study or to a prerequisite qualification for admission to that unit of  study; and
  • was successfully  completed within the period of 10 years immediately before admission to the  course of study or any longer period approved by the Graduate Research  Committee in circumstances it regards as exceptional.

Credit will not be granted towards a thesis  or alternative research component, as per the current Monash  University (Academic Board) Regulations.

Students may build upon work undertaken in their honours thesis or research project undertaken as part of a coursework masters course, providing that the resulting thesis or dissertation meets AQF level 10 criteria.

Applications for credit are to be made via the Credit Application Form.
Applications for recognition of prior learning are to be made via the Recognition of Prior Learning Application Form.

Students should consult with the Program  Director (PhD), Graduate Research Coordinator or Course Convener (professional doctorates) for further information.
