Academic dress for staff

Staff procession and academic dress

All academic and professional staff members are encouraged to celebrate students' achievements by participating in a staff procession at a graduation ceremony.

Borrowing academic dress

We provide academic dress, free of charge, for graduates of Monash (and some other Melbourne-based institutions) who are participating in the procession, subject to requirements and availability.

If you graduated from an institution outside of Melbourne (or we don’t have the academic dress relevant to your award), you can borrow a Council gown. This is a plain gown in Monash colours (without a hood) and is the statutory dress at all University ceremonies for graduate members of staff.

Register for procession and academic dress

Registrations for the July ceremony are now open.

Register your intention to borrow academic dress and/or participate in the staff procession at a graduation ceremony.

After submitting your form, we'll email you to acknowledge your registration. A day before the ceremony, you'll receive another email confirming where and when to pick up your academic dress.

Some ceremonies have limited numbers in the procession (due to seating capacity on stage), so seating preference is given to the supervisors of doctoral candidates.
