Monash Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Framework (2019-2030)

The Monash Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Framework (2019-2030) is underpinned by the Monash University Act, 2009, in which the University commits to realising Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander aspirations, safeguarding cultural heritages, and using expertise and resources to involve Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in our teaching and learning.

The Framework has been developed to closely align with the University’s overarching strategy and its component education and research agendas. It is the first of its kind at Monash, pulling together all of our ambitions across the Indigenous space.

In the six years preceding the Framework the University was guided by two Reconciliation Action Plans for Indigenous matters at Monash, supporting the commitment to advancing the education and employment aspirations of Indigenous people:

Indigenous Research Action Plan (2021-2022)

The University’s dedicated Indigenous Research Action Plan recognises the vital contribution of Indigenous research as a responsibility to Indigenous peoples, and as a key contributor to reconciliation.

The new Indigenous Research Action Plan outlines the flagship strategies and activities that have been designed to advance Indigenous research at Monash.

The Indigenous Employment Action Plan

This action plan was developed to compliment the Monash Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Framework. It aims to position Monash University as an employer of choice for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
