Annual Reconciliation Lecture
We were delighted to welcome Craig Ritchie to present Monash University’s 4th Annual Reconciliation Lecture.
Watch the full 2019 lecture below.
Craig is an Aboriginal man of the Dhunghutti and Biripi nations and is the Chief Executive Officer at the Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies (AIATSIS). Craig’s lecture will focus on 2019 being the International Year of Indigenous Languages.
National Reconciliation Week (NRW) is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.
At the heart of reconciliation this year is the relationship between the broader Australian community and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. To foster positive race relations, our relationship must be grounded in a foundation of truth.
Australians are ready to come to terms with our history as a crucial step towards a unified future, in which we understand, value and respect each other.
We encourage all Monash campuses, Faculties & Divisions to embrace National Reconciliation Week and consider hosting events or activities that promote Monash as a key champion of Reconciliation.
You can get involved by coordinating a Welcome to Country, displaying Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander flags, hosting a morning tea or relevant TED Talk screening, and promoting National Reconciliation Week on social media.
