While uni is an opportunity to study and be part of the William Cooper Institute family, it's also important that we prepare you for life after graduation. We're excited to be working in partnership other university departments, such as Career Connect and Monash Talent, to bring you tailored support.
Monash Talent is an exciting new Monash University employment service. On their website, you can find information for graduates about how to make a seamless transition from your degree to your career. You can watch this video from the Monash Talent team about how to prepare and apply for graduate programs.
Indigenous Industry Meetup
Delivered in conjunction with Career Connect, the virtual Indigenous Industry Meetup is an event designed to help you network with organisations from a variety of sectors to discover the wealth of opportunities available.
Thursday, 30 July
Time: 2-4pm AEST
Here's how you can make the most of it:
Before the event
Go in with a game plan
The Indigenous Industry Meetup will run for two hours, with a broad selection of employers to speak to. Download Zoom so you're ready to go at the beginning of the event. Consider which organisations are high priority for you, and plan to chat to them first. Visit the Indigenous Industry Meetup site to find out more about the organisations that are attending.
Dress to impress
Treat this opportunity as you would treat a job interview by wearing professional attire.
Know what to ask
Time is limited, so prepare some questions for prospective employers in advance, so that you can get straight to the point. Here's some ideas to get you started:
- When is your next graduate intake?
- How many graduate intakes do you have per year?
- What kind of skills and attributes are you looking for in graduate employees?
- What tips do you have for students looking to work in your sector?
During the event
To join the Indigenous Industry Meetup at the designated time, click here
. When the Indigenous Industry Meetup goes live on Thursday, 30 July, at 3pm you'll see buttons under each organisation saying "Join video booth".
Depending on how many people are in the Zoom, you can ask questions face to face or via the Zoom chat.
We hope that you enjoy the networking opportunity, have a yarn, and make connections with prospective employers. You'll be able to ask questions, and also see how industry representatives are answering the questions of your peers.
Our top tip: You can ask to grab the contact details of industry representatives if you'd like to continue your conversation after the event.
After the event
This is when you can start networking. LinkedIn is a great tool to connect with industry representatives and explore the organisations that matched your interests. You'll be able to see the skills and experience of their staff.
If you have the contact details of one of the industry representatives, don't be afraid to reach out and ask questions about graduate employment options.
