Dr. Alyas Widita is Assistant Professor in Urban Design program at Monash University, Indonesia. He works at the intersection of the built environment, urban mobility, and emerging technologies, with a particular focus on developing Asia.

In his most recent research, he has conducted impact evaluation of new transit opening, i.e., the MRT Jakarta – Indonesia’s first subway, on congestion and travel behavior; estimated the effects of ride-hailing services on vehicle registration and road safety across Indonesian districts; explored the spatiotemporal variation of housing prices using million data points; developed a causal framework for estimating the impact of rural-urban migration on travel behavior. He designs his overall research program as an avenue to address theoretically driven and policy relevant research questions. As a practice- and policy-oriented researcher, he has consulted with the World Bank and contributed to the successful completion of multi-year research projects sponsored by the Georgia Department of Transportation (United States).

Alyas holds a PhD in City and Regional Planning from Georgia Institute of Technology. Before completing his doctoral studies, he earned his MS in Urban and Regional Planning from The University of Iowa as a Fulbright scholar and B.Eng in Architecture from Universitas Gadjah Mada.
