Pre-seed Investment Initiative
Monash University is investing in the next-generation of innovative start-ups and spin-outs. Through the Pre-Seed Investment Initiative, Monash University and Breakthrough Victoria provide early-stage funding into investment-ready spin-outs from the University. As well as this first investment, the initiative provides access to networks, expertise, mentoring to accelerate research translation and commercialisation.
Investment and support is available for research translation and early-stage commercialisation of Monash University intellectual property across all university disciplines and assesses opportunities on their commercial potential, as well as social opportunities on the potential impact to their community and to Australia.
Expressions of interest and eligibility
The initiative was launched in September 2023 and aims to invest in Monash University opportunities on an ongoing basis - there is no end or closing date for applications.
Pre-seed investment into Monash University opportunities is made on a commercial basis. Monash University originated start-ups and spin-outs in early stage development are eligible to receive investment. Please note, the team will be happy to received and assess pre-incorporated opportunities, bearing in mind that investment will require an entity to be set up in due course. The company will need to have significant links to the University to be eligible, such as licensing Monash IP (patents, software, significant know-how etc.) or a strong relationship (through, for example, contract research or startup programs).
