Global impact

To change the world by transforming research into tangible solutions that improve human life

At Monash University, we know that great research when applied properly can make positive and lasting change.

For more than 60 years, we have worked with fellow research partners, government and industry partners on ground-breaking discoveries which have improved the lives and health of millions of people around the world.

Monash University’s established strengths in research are focused on the areas we believe will have the greatest impacts of our time:

Health sciences

Globally recognised for the breadth and depth of research and delivery in health, Precinct partners have a strong focus on:

  • translating findings from the lab into tangible outcomes for patients and communities.
  • cross-faculty collaborations to develop leading edge medical devices
  • enhance the provision of health services through local and international partnerships.

Monash are pioneers of IVF treatment, the FODMAP diet and the fight against mosquito-borne diseases.

Future materials and processes

Our new world economies, products and technologies will be built with the next generation of new materials and innovative manufacturing processes and techniques.

The Precinct’s advanced manufacturing capability provides jobs across a broad spectrum of manufacturing types, being home to over 70% percent of Victoria’s high value and advanced manufacturing.

Collaborations between advanced manufacturing and Monash University researchers, for example in 3D printing, new materials and intelligence robotics, have the potential to create and export world-leading products.

Artificial intelligence and data science

Artificial Intelligence is changing the very nature of human life- changing the ways we work, interact and access services like medical care.

The Monash Precinct has leading engineering design and research capabilities in future technologies. We partner with industry to develop and understand future technologies, apply advancements and consider the impact of AI in our lives.

Sustainable development

Monash is committed to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals to overcome the critical issues of humans living within decreasing resources.

We are at the forefront of developing practical solutions to the social, economic and environmental challenges of the Sustainable Development Goals and envision the Precinct to become a global example.

Better governance and policy

Inclusive governance and policy are arguably the most significant challenges for the Asia-Pacific region.

Monash speaks with one collective voice to our research community and partners, as well as governments, industries, and communities about their own policy needs. We’re working together towards improving human well-being.

Together Precinct partners are solving future global challenges in our Precinct and beyond.
