Speakers

Dr Djuke Veldhuis

Djuke is Director of the Bachelors of Science Advanced – Global Challenges course at Monash University and passionate about engaging at the intersection of science and society. She holds a BA (Hons) in Archaeology & Anthropology and a PhD in Biological Anthropology from the University of Cambridge and an MA in Science Journalism from City, University of London.

Dr Simon Clarke

Michael's research interests include the evolution of non-linear waves and their application to geophysical flows. Topics of research in this field include; effect of shear of finite-amplitude waves, trapping of non-linear internal waves, internal solitary waves with oscillatory tails, dynamics of finite-amplitude interfacial waves, non-linear critical layers, non-linear wave groups.

Dr Vanessa Wong

Vanessa's research explores the spatial and temporal interactions between soils, sediments and water at a range of scales. She is interested in the role of soil-surface water-shallow groundwater processes ranging from the micron scale to the landscape scale in landscape function. She seeks to understand how these biogeochemical processes occur in a range of environments. This has allowed her to work closely with industry, government organisations (local, state and federal) and catchment management authorities to develop and apply findings from her research to improve land and water management strategies.
