GCC Delegation Visit to Institute of Railway Technology, Monash University

On Thursday 3rd September 2015, the Institute of Railway Technology at Monash University hosted a high level transport sector delegation which was led by the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Secretariat General and comprised of senior government transport officials and rail organisation executives from the Gulf Cooperation Council member States. Organisations represented included Etihad Rail (Abu Dhabi), Oman Rail and Oman Ministry of Transport, Saudi Arabia Ministry of Transport and Ministry of Finance, Qatar Railways, Qatar Ministry of Transport, Kuwait Ministry of Finance and GCC Secretariat General.

The above visit was arranged and coordinated by Mr Saïd Metwalli, Austrade's Trade Commissioner in Abu Dhabi and Mr Peter Ironmonger, Trade Manager – Infrastructure, Australian Operation. The GCC delegation were presented with Monash University's industry partnerships initiatives, global engagement activities especially in the GCC region and leading railway research activities by Prof Mohan Krishnamoorthy (Pro Vice-Chancellor - Industry Partnerships), Prof Abid Khan, (Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Vice President Global Engagement) and Mr Ravi Ravitharan, (Director - Institute of Railway Technology) respectively.

The GCC delegations also visited Monash University's state of the art CAVE2 immersive visualisation platform.
