Recycled Plastic is the New Material for Heritage Railway Sleepers.

There is hope recycled plastic railway sleepers made in north-west Victoria couldl be the next weapon in the war on waste. Currently many heritage railways rely on second hand timber sleepers, but now testing is underway to see if plastic could be a viable alternative.

Monash University's Institute of Railway Technology is testing the plastic sleepers to prove they will support trains.
