What is your favourite thing about the field you’re studying? (games dev)
The great thing about Creative Computing is that it nurtures both creative and technically minded people. There's scope to be artistic and create beautiful things while also getting a taste of the more serious programming side of things. Your code results in something visual - it's the best of both worlds!
Which IT facility are you most impressed with and why?
The new sensiLab research facility at Caulfield has really taken my interest. The lab brings together people from many different faculties to solve problems of the internet-age which would be impossible to solve without inter-faculty collaboration. We're using technologies like motion capture and 3D scanning to resurrect a medieval civilisation which is really cool.
What has been the highlight of your course so far?
Having the opportunity to visit the CAVE2 facility during my undergraduate studies was a real eye-opener for me. It exposed me to the research possibilities available to graduates and highlighted the great work the faculty is doing in information visualisation and human-computer interaction.
What advice do you have for prospective students looking to study games development?
Remember that passion fuels the fire. Whether you love making pretty websites, tweaking special effects, or perfecting a 3D walk-cycle, there's so much freedom in multimedia you're sure to find something you love.
