Speaker bio

Nitesh Chawla is the Frank M. Freimann Professor of Computer Science and Engineering, and director of the Interdisciplinary Research Center on Network and Data Sciences at the University of Notre Dame. He started his tenure-track career at Notre Dame in 2007 and quickly advanced from assistant professor to the chaired full professor position in 2016. He has brought in over $28M USD in research funding. He has published over 200 papers with more than 17,000 citations and an H-index of 50.  He is the recipient of several awards and honours, including the IEEE Computational Intelligence Society Outstanding Early Career Award, the IBM Watson Faculty Award, the IBM Big Data and Analytics Faculty Award, National Academy of Engineering New Faculty Fellowship, and Outstanding Teaching Award (twice). In addition, several papers from his group have received best paper nominations and awards, and his students have also received notable honours like KDD Outstanding Dissertation Runner-Up, Silver Medal for Best Student Research at ACM Grace Hopper Conference.  In recognition of the societal and community-driven impact of his research, he was recognised with the Rodney F. Ganey Award and Michiana 40 Under 40.  He is a Fellow of the Reilly Center for Science, Technology, and Values, Fellow of the Kellogg Institute of International Studies, and Fellow of the Kroc Institute for International Peace Studies at Notre Dame. He is the founder of Aunalytics, Inc, a data science software and solutions company.
