Centre for Data Science
The Centre for Data Science collaborated with industry, government and community partners to develop effective data-driven solutions and enhance research expertise. The Centre specialised in data governance, data management, data archiving, data analytics and visualisation in the digital humanities, community, cultural heritage and not-for-profit areas.
Collective Behaviour Group
The Collective Behaviour Group investigated the processes which shaped the behaviour of large groups – from insect colonies to human crowds. Its interdisciplinary approach combined advanced computational modelling with experimental studies, and its members worked on applications in ecology, agriculture, swarm intelligence and swarm robotics.
Computer Education Research Group (CERG)
The CERG examined contemporary education issues in computing. Its research projects encompassed the breadth of computing education, including using technology to assist with teaching.
Decision Support Systems Laboratory (DSS Lab)
Housing the largest group of business intelligence researchers in the Asia-Pacific region, the DSS Lab developed IT-based systems to support decision processes. These spanned areas such as online analytical processing, data visualisation and business analytics.
Lab for Dialogue Research (LDR)
The LDR engages in research to design, build and evaluate cutting-edge dialogue systems underpinned by machine learning, natural language processing and other AI technologies. The Lab partners closely with other centres in the Faculty of IT, the Faculty of Engineering, government, industry and universities around the world.
Monash Adaptive Visualisation Group (MArVL)
Comprising academic staff, research programmers, postdoctoral fellows and PhD students, MArVL was internationally renowned for its research in information visualisation, accessibility and responsive document layouts.
User Modelling and Natural Language Research Group (UM&NL)
The UM&NL examined the use of statistical and machine learning techniques for human-computer interaction. This included intelligent tutoring systems, online help systems and information filtering systems.
